Update: Gunman robs armored truck at University Square

Monday’s armed robbery of an armored vehicle occurred on Tulane’s University Square campus, according to the Tulane University Police Department’s Daily Activity Report. The report stated that “an armored truck service was making a cash pick up at 200 Broadway [St.] when an unknown subjected rushed the passenger of the armored truck with a handgun.” The 200 Broadway St. address is the address of University Square.

A lone gunman robbed a Dunbar armored truck at approximately 8:40 a.m Monday. The incident took place on the 200 block of Broadway Street, near Leake Avenue and Tulane’s University Square. The New Orleans Police Department and the FBI are currently investigating the case.

FBI Public Affairs Specialist Mary Beth Romig said in a press release that the robber forced his way into the armored vehicle and made the guards drive the truck to the area near the intersection of Chestnut and Audubon Streets. He then fled the area with a bag full of an unknown amount of money.

The suspect was armed with a black revolver and is described as a 6-foot-tall black male with a slim build in his mid-20s to early-30s. He wore a blue long-sleeve shirt, dark pants, white cloth gloves and a white garden-style hat, which covered his face.

Tulane University Police Department issued a crime alert regarding this incident at around 12:30 p.m.
